The Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) in partnership with HSI has been awarded the USAID Technical Assistance Support Contract Indefinite Quantity Contract for Tuberculosis (TASC2 TB IQC). Under this IQC, HSI will play a leadership role and be the primary provider of technical assistance (TA) for activities related to Global Fund program implementation, health economics, cost and resource analysis, resource mobilization and human resource capacity and strategy assessment and evaluations. HSI will also provide TA related to health systems strengthening and monitoring and evaluation. .
Health Strategies International participated in the “Human Resources for Health Research” Conference in Lusaka, Zambia on June 7 and 8 2007. The theme of the conference was “Transforming Research into Action: Providing Evidence for HRH Policy Development, Program Design, and Implementation.” Two papers from HSI were accepted on the following topics:
- Assessing civil society human resources for Zambian malaria scale-up
- Building Zambian training institution capacity to meet Ministry of Health output targets
HSI is at present actively involved in Zambia, working alongside the National Malaria Control Center (NMCC) and the Zambian Ministry of Health to develop estimates of human resource requirements and costs of a national scale-up of malaria program coverage.
Dr. Martin-Staple, founder and President of HSI, participated in a Workshop on "Health Systems Strengthening through the Global Fund Round 7" in Thailand on 8-10 May 2007. She presented a paper on "Winning Global Fund Proposals: Case Studies from Malawi and Zambia" and participated as a resource person during the 3-day workshop. The objectives for the workshop included:
- To clarify the GF Round 7 guidelines and application forms and process, including lessons drawn from the past round applications.
- To build capacity to country applicants regarding the integration of HSS and HRH components into disease specific application to the GF.
- To build capacity of technical advisors to provide support to to countries in their efforts to draft a successful proposal.
The workshop also served as a platform to assist countries in the national process of proposal development. It was supported by the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
HSI will follow up with technical support to countries.
